Hon. James Klutse Avedzi, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has expressed his unequivocal support for the continuation of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s leadership in Ghana’s 9th Parliament.
This comes in response to an editorial by 3News saying;“Bagbin’s Tenure Has Been Full of Missteps, Misjudgments; Why Would Anyone Want Him Retained as Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament?” Authored by Richard Sena Quarshie, Editor-in-Chief of 3News, the piece raised concerns about Bagbin’s tenure, questioning his judgment and leadership.
The article has ignited a divisive debate within Ghana’s political landscape, with some advocating for Bagbin’s removal, while others emphasize his importance to the functioning of the legislature.
“My attention has just been drawn to a publication titled: ‘Bagbin’s Tenure Has Been Full of Missteps, Misjudgments; Why Would Anyone Want Him Retained as Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament’ by 3News.com. The opinion expressed in this publication is entirely that of 3News.com. I have absolutely nothing connected to the publication and should not be given any attention,” he stated.
Endorsement of Speaker Bagbin
Dr. Avedzi further reaffirmed his strong backing for Speaker Bagbin, aligning himself with the recommendation from the President-elect to retain him as Speaker.
“I fully support the recommendation from the President-elect for Speaker Bagbin to continue his work as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana,” he affirmed.
This endorsement adds to the voices advocating for Bagbin’s leadership in the next parliamentary term, emphasizing the stability and continuity his role provides in Ghana’s legislative processes.
As the debate over Speaker Bagbin’s legacy continues, it remains to be seen how Parliament will respond to the differing opinions and whether this recommendation will shape the legislative leadership for the years ahead.
