The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a call for party members, executives, and supporters to cease ongoing campaign activities aimed at promoting individuals for various positions within the party. This plea comes in light of concerns that such actions are undermining the NPP’s immediate priority of recovering from its disappointing performance in the 2024 elections.
In a statement, the elders stressed the importance of focusing on introspection and unity rather than engaging in internal rivalries or premature campaigns. They urged party members to reflect on the factors that contributed to the electoral defeat and to work collaboratively on strategies for a stronger comeback.
“At this pivotal juncture, the NPP must concentrate on understanding the reasons behind its electoral defeat and developing actionable strategies to bounce back stronger,” the elders stated.
To facilitate this process, the National Council has formed an Election Review Committee, led by Professor Mike Oquaye. Over the next three months, this committee will engage with party members, stakeholders, and the public to gather insights and propose actionable recommendations. A comprehensive report will be presented upon the committee’s completion of its work.
The elders emphasized that the focus should be on rebuilding the party and fostering a sense of unity among members as they navigate this challenging period.
