
The United States has carried out air strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites – Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Former president Donald Trump described the operation as very successful and said Fordow was “gone”.
Trump announced the strikes on Truth Social, confirming that US aircraft had returned home. In a short Oval Office address, he said Iran now faces “either peace or tragedy” and warned there are further targets if needed. He added that Iran’s main enrichment facilities have been completely destroyed.
Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the attack as a violation of the UN Charter, international law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty. He warned of lasting consequences and said Iran reserves all options to defend its people and sovereignty.
UN secretary-general António Guterres said he was deeply alarmed by the escalation. He cautioned that the conflict could spiral out of control, with catastrophic results for civilians and the wider region.
According to Iran’s ministry of health, at least 430 people have died and 3 500 are injured since Israel began its offensive. In Israel, 24 civilians have died and more than 1 200 are wounded after over 450 Iranian missiles were fired.
