Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has announced that Parliament is working on a bill to introduce lifestyle audits as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption framework.
According to Bagbin, the proposed legislation will empower state institutions like the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate individuals—particularly public officials and politically exposed persons—whose standard of living appears inconsistent with their known income sources.
“I am currently receiving extensive input to initiate legislation on lifestyle audits,” Bagbin said during a strategic meeting with Ghana’s Key Accountability Institutions (KAI) in Parliament on June 9, 2025.
The Speaker noted that the idea of lifestyle audits is gaining traction among civil society organisations and top government officials, including the Vice President and the OSP. He emphasized the need to stop the public display of unexplained wealth, adding: “We will legislate it and put an end to individuals flaunting ill-gotten wealth in the faces of ordinary Ghanaians.”
